Forsaking Comfort for Freedom
In a society that values comfort, the life of a Christian is greatly challenged. The life of Jesus shows us as believers the blueprint of what it means to have freedom. In order to have freedom, surrender must take place. According to 2 Corinthians 8:9, "though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich." Jesus laid aside his God form and riches and took human form to redeem us. One of the biggest misconceptions of Christianity is that Jesus gave up his life so that we don't have to. On the contrary, Jesus, being the firstborn of all believers, encouraged us to "deny ourselves, take up our crosses, and follow him." (Matthew 16:24) As we learn how rewarding it is when we forsake our own comfort, we begin to experience the true freedom that God promised us and see it manifest around us!
